Setting Up Local Pick Up and Local Delivery

How do you set up your local pick up and delivery options on Shopify's settings?

In order to use the Restaurant Alert + Deliver app, you have to ensure that your local pick up and local delivery settings on Shopify have been configured. In case you haven't done so, we've prepared a step by step instruction to help!


Setting Up Local Pick Up on Shopify

Step 1

On your Shopify Store's Admin, go to Settings > Shipping and Delivery.

Step 2

Under the Local Pick Up section, click Manage beside the location you would like to enable.

⚠️ You must already have a location set up before doing this step.

Step 3

Tick the checkbox for the option "This location offers local pick up" to enable pick up in this location.

Step 4

Two sections will appear: Information at Checkout, and Order Ready for Pick Up Notification.

Under the Information at Checkout section, select your expected pick up time from the dropdown provided.

Step 5

Under the Order Ready for Pick Up Notification section, draft the message you would like your customers to see as they select their pick up option.

💡 Use this feature to give complete instructions to your customers as to how to go about picking up their orders!

Step 6

Click Save.


Setting Up Local Delivery on Shopify

Step 1

On your Shopify Store's Admin, go to Settings > Shipping and Delivery.

Step 2

Under the Local Delivery section, click Manage beside the location you would like to enable.

⚠️ You must already have a location set up before doing this step.

Step 3

Tick the checkbox for the option "This location offers local delivery" to enable delivery in this location.

Step 4

The Delivery Area section will appear. You have two options to define your delivery area:

1. Use Postal Codes

  • Enter a list of postal codes (up to a maximum of 3,000 characters) to which you will deliver, separated by a comma and a space. To include a group of postal codes, add either an asterisk or a space after the initial characters to indicate a range of postal codes

E.g.,

2. Set a Delivery Radius

  • Select a unit of measurement and enter the maximum distance between your delivery location and where you want to deliver to. The distance must be less than 160 kilometers or 100 miles.

  • Choose whether to enable Include neighboring states or regions.

Step 6

Optional: If you want to only offer delivery on orders over a certain price, then enter the amount in the Minimum order price section.

Step 7

Enter a delivery price. If you want to offer free delivery, then enter 0.

Step 8

Optional: In the Delivery Information section, enter a message to customers with details of your local delivery services.

💡 Use this feature to confirm your customer's order and set expectations regrading their delivery!

Step 9

Next, go to your Shopify Admin > Settings > Shipping and Delivery. Under General Shipping Rates within the Shipping seciton, click Manage Rates.

Step 10

Beside each set up location, make sure you have a shipping zone created that includes your local delivery area.

If you do not have these zones set up, kindly do the following:

  1. Under your selected "Shipping from" location, click Create Shipping Zone.

  2. Name your zone and select the country & regions included in this zone.

    - ℹ️ Note: the zone does not have to be the local delivery area; it just has to include the local delivery area.
    - E.g., if my local delivery area is the Metro Manila region only, my shipping zone should include Metro Manila but can also include all other regions of the Philippines.

  3. If you would like to only offer the local delivery rates, do not add a shipping rate to this zone.

  4. Repeat steps 1-3 for all other Shipping from locations.

  5. Click Save.

Step 11

Ensure that all your products are available in all locations, and are on sale on your Online Store.

You may do so via the bulk editor on your Products page. Go to Products > All Products, and tick the checkbox to select all products listed, and do the following:

  1. Click Edit Products.

  2. Click Add Fields.

  3. Select the Available to Online Store and the Country of Origin fields.

  4. Under the Available to Online Store column, check that all products you would like to sell via your online store have a ticked check box.

  5. Under the Country of Origin column, for all products you would like to offer local delivery, select your country from the dropdown menu.

  6. Click Save.
